( Comprehensive report from Hanoi on the 19th Sept 2020 ) Vietnam has finally reopened after closing its international border for more than 5 months. Its first international flight departed from the capital Hanoi in the morning on Saturday (19th Sept 2020 ).

The Vietnam News Agency reported that on the same day, about 60 passengers took a flight from Vietnam’s state-owned company Vietnam Airlines to Tokyo, Japan. Most of them were Vietnamese students and returning to work in Japan, including some Japanese citizens.

According to the report, passengers flying to Tokyo must provide a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) negative test result certificate obtained within 72 hours before departure.

Vietnam Airlines expects that there will be three more flights to Japan this month. As for the Japan-Vietnam route, arrangements will be made after the authorities officially notify them.

Vietnam has suspended all international airline services since the end of March following the outbreak of the coronavirus. As of Saturday morning, Vietnam had a total of 1,068 confirmed cases and a total of 35 deaths. There have been no new community infections for more than two weeks.
