( Washington, 23 May 2020 ) The US Department of Labor said on Friday that the unemployment rate in all 50 US states and the District of Columbia rose in April, and the total number of employees fell, due to efforts to control the coronary disease epidemic, which forced some companies across the country to close.
Nevada unemployment rate soars to 28.2%
The Bureau of Statistics of the US Department of Labor said that the unemployment rate in 43 states reached a record high last month, with Nevada having the highest unemployment rate and the state's highest reliance on the food service and hospitality industry that was hit hard. Nevada ’s unemployment rate rose by 24.2% to 28.2%, almost double the national unemployment rate of 14.7% in April.
The three states with the most job losses in April were California (with 2.3 million jobs lost), New York (with 1.8 million job losses), and Texas (with 1.3 million job losses).
