Travel Industry Impact - Booking.com Plans To Lay Off 25% of Global Staff


( New York, 5th August 2020 ) The parent company of Booking.com, a well-known booking website, said that the coronavirus epidemic continues to cause severe damage to the tourism industry, and the company is planning to cut Booking.com's global employees by up to 25%.


Booking Holdings said that the final plan has not yet been finalized, but from September it will announce the number of layoffs based on individual countries.


Booking.com currently has about 17,000 employees worldwide, and more than 4,000 people will be affected by 25% layoffs. Booking Holdings is also a shareholder of Ctrip.


Booking company, which also owns travel websites such as Priceline.com and Kayak, announced a 51% year-on-year decrease in total travel bookings for the first quarter of this year. The company will announce its second-quarter profit on Thursday.
