Ministry of Agriculture and Food: The Output of Durian Will Exceed 440,000 tons By 2030


( Raub, 13rd Sept 2020 ) Malaysia's durian output is estimated to increase to 443,000 metric tons in 2030.


Khali Ibrahim, Secretary of the Market and Export Section of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, pointed out that the area of ​​durian planted in my country last year reached 72,536 hectares and the output was 384,170 metric tons.


He said that the main durian producing states in my country are Pahang, Johor and Sarawak, which produce 89,916 metric tons, 87,838 metric tons and 34,650 metric tons respectively.


"Pahang's Raub is the main producing area of ​​Musang King. The county's durian planting area covers 11,201 hectares and produces 70,650 metric tons of durians, valued at 1.3 billion ringgits. Musang King (D197), D24, IOI (D168) and Kampong Durian Ping is a popular local variety."


He told Bernama recently when he attended the 2020 Raub Durian Tour.


In terms of exports, Kali Ibrahim pointed out that my country exported 23,381 metric tons of durian in 2018, with a total value of RM118.2 million. The main importers of durian from my country are Singapore, Hong Kong, the United States, China and Vietnam.


Regarding the durian tourism promoted by the department in October last year, it was affected by the COVID-19 epidemic. However, he believes that our country can achieve the goal, and the current promotion of durian is through social media.


Arrange for Internet Celebrities To Visit The Orchard


The Raub Durian Tour, promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, arranged for 6 Chinese international students, 5 Internet celebrities and 2 Chinese Embassy representatives to visit the durian orchard.


"Those Internet celebrities have hundreds of thousands of fans. I believe they will introduce our durian through video."


He hopes to continue to promote durian to increase China's demand for durian and export to the country.
