Indonesia Grants Subsidies To Nearly 14 Million Workers



( Jakarta, 6th August 2020 ) Indonesia plans to distribute a total of US$2.15 billion (approximately RM9 billion) in subsidies to 13.8 million workers under its stimulus package to support household consumption during the epidemic.


Indonesia reported on Wednesday (5th) that gross domestic product (GDP) shrank by 5.32% in the second quarter, and household consumption, which accounts for more than half of the economy, fell 5.51% year-on-year.


State-owned Enterprise Minister Tohill said on Thursday: “The purpose of the government to increase income is to support household consumption, which is essential to promote economic development and economic improvement.” He said in a statement that starting from September, monthly income Workers with less than 5 million rupiah (about 1529 ringgit) will receive about 41 U.S. dollars (about 171 ringgit) per month within four months.


Thorhill, who is in charge of the Coronavirus Recovery Task Force, said that non-government officials and employees of state-owned companies registered with workers’ social security providers are eligible to receive subsidies.
