( New Delhi, 23rd July 2020 ) Based on the prospect of palm oil, which is an imported commodity from India, “secure”, India Prime Minister Narendra Modi today asked farmers in the north to plant oil palm and prepare to “self-sufficiency” in the future.
Narendra Modi said in a video conference that he has recently been informed by agricultural experts and economists that the potential of oil palm planting in northern India is sufficient to ensure India's self-sufficiency in the future.
"I ask all (northern) state governments to implement the mission of developing oil palm."
He pointed out that in order to lay the foundation for the development of the oil palm industry, the government will promote a water supply project in Manipur.
