( Washington, 29th Sept 2020 ) Google announced that in order to ensure the security of online transactions, all developers must use the Google Play payment system for the in-app purchase function of apps. Google pointed out that this mechanism will be strictly implemented in the future and no external payment methods will be used to protect consumer rights.
Although Google has always called on developers to use the Google Play payment mechanism, it is not as strict as Apple. Foreign media CNBC reported that currently applications including Netflix and Spotify are encouraging users to pay through their own websites, thereby bypassing the 30% compulsory levy on Google Play.
Google revealed that there are still less than 3% of developers failing to comply with the regulations, and the company will give a one-year grace period to allow developers to complete the update before September 30 next year and link the application with the Google Play charging system.
