( Yangon, 27th Sept 2020 ) Myanmar’s largest city, Yangon, is speeding up the construction of a new isolation center and is busy preventing the first large-scale outbreak in this commercial city.
According to foreign telegraph reports, Myanmar has one of the world's most primitive medical systems. However, the local area has been relatively rarely affected by the global epidemic until recently.
The cumulative number of confirmed cases in Myanmar last month was less than 400, with only 6 deaths. However, new cases in the west quickly spread to other parts of Myanmar, and the number of new cases doubled every week to more than 9,000. In the next few days, the number of confirmed cases in Myanmar is expected to exceed 10,000, and the current number of deaths from the epidemic is 174.
Most of the confirmed cases in Myanmar are in Yangon. Many people worry that the current resumption of strict epidemic prevention and blockade measures will have a blow to the livelihoods of the poor in Yangon.
Yangon currently has about 6,000 people under quarantine. According to official media reports, 7 new quarantine facilities have been built to accommodate another 1,000 people.
The total number of confirmed diagnoses in the Philippines exceeds 300,000
A doctor at a clinic in Yangon said: "We estimate that there are still 10,000 suspected cases."
He said the medical practitioners around Yangon were "exhausted."
Local residents are told to stay at home unless they work in certain important industries or go out to buy food and medical supplies.
Domestic travel from Yangon to other regions has been banned, and the ban on commercial flights on international routes has been extended to the end of October.
In addition, the epidemic in the Philippines and Indonesia is still severe. The Philippine Ministry of Health announced on Saturday that there were 2,747 newly diagnosed cases and a total of 301,256 confirmed cases. 4,494 people were newly diagnosed in Indonesia, with a total of 271,339 confirmed cases.
In terms of death toll, the Philippines added 88 deaths, and the cumulative number of deaths from the epidemic reached 5,284; Indonesia added 90 deaths, and the cumulative number of deaths from the epidemic reached 10,308.
