79,000 People Lost Their Jobs in 9 Months, Management Was Fired Accounting For 38%


( Putrajaya, 12nd Sept 2020 ) Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Saravanan said that as of the beginning of September this year, 78,800 domestic employees have been laid off, of which 38% are from professional and management categories.


Datuk Seri Saravanan urged employers to hire local employees through the employee recruitment program (PenjanaKerjaya) and MYFutureJobs, while the Human Resources Department prioritized the job retention and job opportunities agenda to ensure that the country's economy can be recovered during the COVID-19 pandemic.


"If more people have jobs, it will increase the purchasing power of the people, which in turn will have a positive impact on business and the national economy."


Datuk Seri Saravanan issued a statement saying that the ministry has reorganized a number of strategic transformation plans to minimize the unemployment rate and strive to improve the well-being of the people.


He said that one of the transformation strategies is to encourage the recruitment of local professionals and upgrade the skills of Chinese people, so as to consolidate the market competitiveness of Chinese people and prepare for the future employment of local people.


"Social insurance agencies have introduced the Prime Minister’s hiring incentive plan to solve the domestic unemployment problem, and at the same time strengthen the recruitment of locals. Since the implementation of the hiring incentive plan and training plan for two and a half months, whether it is for job registration, job vacancy, or hiring locals The data has grown."


He emphasized that the employment incentive plan is only applicable to employers hiring school leavers, university graduates, suspended persons and vulnerable groups, including unemployed seniors; this plan has been implemented from June 15 to September 9 this year. , Successfully found suitable jobs for 46,043 job seekers.


To Hire Foreign Workers, You Need To Advertise First


For employers who want to hire foreign workers, they are urged to register with the national employment service website and MYFutureJobs, and they must hire foreign workers or foreign professionals 30 days after the employment advertisement is published.


Saravanan said that if employers provide employment opportunities to foreign workers and foreign professionals, the employment status of freshly graduated college students who are about to flood into the job market will cause concern.


He urged employers to actively participate in the weekly career carnivals and public interviews held by the social insurance agencies in the branch offices to find local talents and make good use of the six-month subsidy of RM800 to RM1,000.
